New long-term contract with Liverpool :Luis Suarez signs

The 25-year-old Uruguayan striker had four years left on the five-and-a-half-year deal he signed when he moved from Ajax in January 2011.But the Anfield side were keen to tie up the striker’s future with other clubs showing interest in him.

The news comes just 1day after Suarez has been recently linked with a new manager Brendan Rodgers at training for the first time continuing Uruguay’s exit from the Olympics at the group stage.

Luis signed a five-and-a-half year contract when he joined reds from Ajax in January 2011 but his new agreement is expected to bring his pay in line with the club’s highest earners such as Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Glen Johnson.

 

Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “There were definitely a few clubs interested in him but he’s committed himself for the long term here now.”

 

Suarez said: “I’m so excited. When you have the opportunity to work with world-class players it’s wonderful”

Suarez has trebled his wages to become one of the club’s highest paid players on £100,000 per week.He acknowledged on Liverpoolfc.com: To sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city.

“When you are a kid, everybody wants to play for Liverpool. I am here now and it is a dream for me, and now I am a Liverpool fan.”

I want to say thank you to the fans because they are our 12th player. The supporters & cheers for Liverpool are unbelievable. Five or six years ago I watched on TV the stadium and the club, and now I play here and the supporters have helped me a lot. That`s very important for me & for every players.

 

Suarez only joined the club on Tuesday following Olympic football duty with Uruguay. He trained with his team-mates for the first time since Rodgers was appointed manager

 

‘Having now committed his best years to the Anfield club, suarez looks a great bet to finish Premier League Top Goalscorer in the 2012/13 season. He would certainly enter the annals of true Anfield greats if he can build on his promising start to his career as a Red in the coming season. At 14/1, there’s some great value to be had by back Suarez!
