Manchester United’s long standing pursuit of Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann seems to have finally come to an end with reports claiming that they have pulled out of the race to sign him.
Griezmann 26, has been linked to Man United for a long time, with an £86 million move expected to have been completed over the summer, but he chose to remain at Altetico following their transfer ban.
United were prepared to make another attempt in January when Altletico would be more receptive to offers, but reports from Spanish outlet Marca, now claim, Mourinho has decided he does not want to be drawn into a bidding war with Barcelona for the attacker, and has subsequently dropped interest.
Goal.com however, also claims that Barca’s move for Griezmann would depend on the outcome of their interest in Phillipe Coutinho, with the club unable to afford both players.
It is very surprising that Mourinho would back out of a bidding war for a player he and the fans most certainly need, just when he’s most likely to come. We’ll see how true the reports are, with time, and we will see if he changes his mind.
