Manchester United will look to block any moves for unsettled forward Anthony Martial this summer, reports say.
Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old, who became the most expensive teenager in football history in 2015 when United signed him from Monaco.
Martial has shown glimpses of his immense potential at Old Trafford but, unable to earn a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI, is growing frustrated.
He has started less than half of United’s Premier League fixtures this term and his prospects have not been helped by Alexis Sanchez’s arrival.
It emerged on Tuesday that Chelsea had joined the growing number of clubs who would look to sign Martial if he decides to leave in the summer, but interested parties could be disappointed.
The Daily Express say that despite Martial’s frustrations, Manchester United want him to stay as they view him as an important squad player and a talent who could yet improve greatly.
Speaking last month, former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright said Martial’s form had ‘fallen off a cliff’ and that he should be considering his future at United.
‘They should be thinking about it with everything that’s happening and the way United play,’ Wright said of Martial and fellow forward Marcus Rashford.’
‘They should be a lot closer to Manchester City with the quality they have got but they have not been able to really express themselves in the way they want to. ‘He [Martial] has almost fallen off a cliff with Mourinho and if he had to let one of them go it would probably be Martial.’
