Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has told agents that he wants two defenders, and an attacking midfielder this January, according to reports on The Sun.
United are a whopping 15 points behind table toppers Manchester City, and Mourinho has claimed that the gulf in points is due to the gulf in the spending power the two clubs have shown over the last few years.
Despite spending over £260 million since he took over, Mourinho famously claimed; “Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers.” As he tried to explain that the amount he has spent so far is not enough.
It is now believed that he has put the word out to agents that he wants a left back, right back and a playmaker, despite having Blind, Rojo, Darmian, Shaw and Lindelof who can all fill in at the full back positions, and the duo of Mata and Mhkitaryan who are both reputable playmakers.
Luke Shaw though seems to be winning his way back into the side, starting the last four games, and there’s now hope that he can make the position his own, Mourinho however still wants to strengthen that area and the opposite flank.
Mourinho is risking a fallout with the club board with his public complaints against their failure to back him in the market, but they might be willing to strengthen the squad this January.
In my opinion Mourinho has failed to manage a number of his players properly, some of whom he bought himself, he should look to clearing some of the deadwood before looking for new ones.
