Manchester United’s hope of signing Joao Mario has been given a huge boost, with Inter Milan Sporting Director Walter Sabatini admitting the midfielder could leave in January.

The Portuguese midfielder has struggled to get into an impressive table topping Inter Milan side who have lost just once in their last 17 league games, and he is worried continuous lack of playing time would cost him a spot in Portugal’s World Cup squad.

According to The Metro, United are looking at a possible swap deal which will involve Henrik Mhkitaryan going the other way, with the Armenian’s days at Old Trafford numbered after a training ground bust up with manager Jose Mourinho.

Inter Milan are reported to be willing to sell for €45 million, which is the amount they signed him for from Sporting.

United however, face stiff competition from Valencia, with Walter Sabatini admitting that it would be an intelligent transfer to Valencia.

“It would be a very intelligent transfer from their part, we have done many deals with Valencia and we’ve got great relations” he said.

“We didn’t receive concrete offers but we know that Joao Mario has World Cup and wants to play more”

“We’ll see what we’ll do now in January, we’ll meet in the next few days to decide it”
