Man United might be looking to beat their rivals Man City and Chelsea for the second time off the pitch in a matter of days if they take Gary Neville’s advice and sign Aymeric Laporte.
The two Manchester clubs are currently at the summit of the Premier League table, and are keen to reinforce their squads for the second half of the season, however their paths have crossed on the transfer front once this January.
Pep Guardiola thought he had a move for Alexis Sanchez wrapped up, with even the luxury to choose between signing him in January and signing him at the end of the season for free, but at the last minute United came into the picture and completed his transfer.
Now City have turned their attention to Athletic Bilbao’s defender Aymeric Laporte and are looking to pay a reported £60 million to trigger his release clause.
But then again Gary Neville who faced Laporte three times during his short stint in Spain as Valencia’s manager has told United to sign him.
“In my very short time in Spain we played them 3 times! This lad can play! Get in United ...” he tweeted
“Yes. It’s really hard to get players out of Bilbao and costly but this lad is a very good player …”
The 23-year-old defender is a full French international and although he has struggled with serious injuries, he he is seen by City as a possible long term replacement for their captain Vincent Kompany who has been plagued by too many injuries.
