Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged Jose Mourinho to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The German international is continuously being linked with a move to Old Trafford and despite Mourinho refusing to confirm his interest in the German last week, Ferdinand has urged him to sign the World Cup winner.

Ozil arguably enjoyed his best spell in football under the Portuguese boss during their time at European Champions Real Madrid and Ferdinand strongly believes Mourinho can again get the best out of the German in England.

“He was amazing at Real Madrid. He’s a different player to what I’ve seen here,” The Express reports Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“His pace – he’s deceptively quick. And if you can get that out of him, his ability…

“He’s a technician and I would take him at Manchester United all day long. A free transfer, no doubts.”

Ozil started in the game against Man Utd on Saturday but couldn’t stop us from falling to a defeat.

He’s been undoubtedly one of Arsenal’s best players since he joined for what was a club record fee at the time in 2013 and it isn’t surprising to see him attracting interest from a rival club.

However, Gooners will be massively disappointed to see the German join a direct rival in what could turn out to be an unwanted trend following Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move to Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez’s strong links with Manchester City.

Not much can be done by the Gunners regarding where the superstar duo end up next summer.

The duo are well into the last year of their contracts at the Emirates and are likely to leave on a free to the club of their choosing at the end of the current campaign.
