Tottenham tried to sign Michy Batshuayi on deadline day, according to reports.
Mauricio Pochettino signed Fernando Llorente ahead of Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window but it has emerged that the Argentine tactician initially tried to sign Batshuayi.
According to Sky Sports, Pochettino was desperate to find a back up to Kane and made an approach to sign Batshuayi but as expected, Chelsea knocked them back.
Chelsea’s action eventually led to Spurs turning their attention to Llorente, who the Blues were already confident of signing.
Spurs subsequently agreed a £12.1m deal with Swansea for Llorente in the final hours of the transfer window.
Batshuayi is currently playing second fiddle to Alvaro Morata at Chelsea and would have fallen further down the pecking order had Conte signed Llorente.
The 23 year old is struggling to fit in Conte’s style of football and considering his age, I am sure Chelsea would have sent him on loan, had another striker come in. However, there is no way he would have gone to Tottenham.
Earlier this week, Eden Hazard stressed the need for the striker to play regularly.
‘He is 23 years old. If he wants to progress, he must play,’ said Hazard.
‘Especially if Chelsea sign Llorente, he will have less playing time.
‘I am disappointed for him because he has had a very good pre-season.’
