Manchester United are demanding close to £15million for misfit Matteo Darmian, according to Metro.
Jose Mourinho claimed earlier this month that the Italy international, along with Daley Blind, remained part of his first team plans.
‘When a player wants to go, if that’s the case, when the right offers arrive in the club we study that because we always try to have the players happy,’ said Mourinho ahead of the defeat to Brighton a fortnight ago.
‘If happiness means for them to leave let’s see what happens. But they are in my plans, I don’t want to sell, I want to keep.’
Despite Mourinho’s public insistence, Metro can confirm the 28-year-old, who has made just two Premier League starts since October, has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Juventus are understood to have made contact with United but have indicated they are unwilling to pay much beyond £7.5m with the defender’s current deal due to expire in just over a year’s time.
United, however, retain the option to extend Darmian’s contract by a further 12 months and have warned Juventus they will do so, thereby protecting their asset, unless they come close to matching the asking price.
Darmian was signed from Torino for £13.7m by Louis van Gaal three years ago but has struggled to cement a regular place under Mourinho with veterans Ashely Young and Antonio Valencia established as United’s first choice full-backs.
