Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has played down speculations that the club will sign Ronaldo, and stated that ‘Madrid is on fire’, according to Sky Sports.
Transfer journalist Guillem Balague has claimed that Real Madrid will not pay Ronaldo the €50 million per year he is demanding and United do not want to get involved in a transfer the Portuguese.
Real Madrid are currently on a bad run, with a disappointing exit from the Copa del Rey and falling 19 points behind rivals Barcelona. Head coach Zinedine Zidane’s job now looks to be hanging on a balance.
Mourinho recently revealed he would be making a big signing in the summer, which led people to think Ronaldo might be that big signing. However, he has poured cold water on the speculations.
“Madrid is on fire – the results are not good,” Jose said to ManUtd.com. “But it’s a club where I worked for three years and I care about the club. I think I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire.
“To put some water on the fire, I would say Cristiano is the kind of player that every manager wants, every club wants, but only one manager can have and only one club can have – Zidane and Real Madrid. That’s my feeling.”
Mourinho managed Madrid and Ronaldo between 2010 and 2013, they won the La Liga title setting new attacking records.
