Manchester United will hold talks with Jesse Lingard over a new contract after the World Cup following a number of eye-catching displays in Russia.
The 25-year-old has been one of the Three Lions’ standout performers in Russia.
Lingard was handed a new long-term deal at the end of Jose Mourinho’s first campaign at Old Trafford and the decision surprised some supporters given the midfielder was on the fringes for most of the campaign.
However, Lingard became a regular starter last season and United feel he’s deserving of a new deal on better terms.
According to the Sun, Lingard could double his £75,000-a-week salary to earn around £150,000-a-week.
That would put the midfielder towards the upper end of earners at Old Trafford but still firmly below the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and David De Gea.
Lingard has started all but one of England’s World Cup games and is valued by Southgate in an attacking midfield position.
Mourinho has spent nearly £70m this summer and still has around £80m left in his budget to sign a centre-back and a back-up forward.
