Manchester United are likely to keep faith with Alexis Sanchez despite his shocking display against Sevilla in the Champions League.

Sanchez is in the firing line with the Manchester United star struggling for form following his arrival from Arsenal in January.

The 29-year-old has managed just a solitary goal for his new club and was woeful as the Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League by Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Previous reports have claimed the Manchester United hierarchy already regret the signing of the Chile international, who is also having a negative effect on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Yet the Manchester Evening News say Jose Mourinho is likely to keep faith with his No 7.

All is not lost for United’s season.

They remain favourites to finish second to champions-elect Manchester City and also remain in contention for the FA Cup.

Their upcoming quarter-final clash against Brighton, though, is now the biggest game of their season.

And the MEN say it would be a major shock if Mourinho were to take Sanchez out of the firing line.

He may even keep him on the left wing, which would again see Rashford and Martial left out.

Sky Sports’ Charlie Nicholas has been left aghast at Sanchez’s dire displays since his Arsenal transfer.

“At the start of the season, Manchester United had a fluency to them,” he said.

“Paul Pogba played high up with Jesse Lingard behind him and Romelu Lukaku on his game.

“All of a sudden Sanchez comes, Marcus Rashford gets dropped out and Anthony Martial gets moved over.

“All of a sudden the whole team is getting squeezed to fit Sanchez in.

“Sanchez, at the moment, does not deserve to be in the team. It’s too individual. He is giving the ball away too often.

“I’m sure a lot of Manchester United fans must be looking and saying ‘when is he going to do something for us?’

“He looks as though he is trying hard, but this is Manchester United and you’ve got to deliver on a game-by-game basis and he is not.”
