Arsenal-linked midfielder Jean Michel Seri will not leave Nice in January, his club president has confirmed.
Seri was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window but a move didn’t materialize because of a misunderstanding between the player and his club.
However, it was Barcelona and not Arsenal who were closer to signing the midfielder in the summer and it was even claimed that he had agreed terms with the Spanish club before the move fell through.
Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has now revealed in an interview via the Daily Cannon that suitors will not get the chance to sign the midfielder in January.
“Seri will not leave in January. I speak with the player a lot and there is no possible debate. He has a long-term contract.” The whole situation with Seri’s contract is a bit complicated.
Indeed, the situation with Seri’s contract is complicated, considering several reports in the summer made different claims about the details of his contract. First, it was claimed he had a £36m release clause, which was later claimed had expired, and then which reports finally claimed was a “gentle man’s agreement” between the player and the club and not a release clause.
A January move would definitely be difficult to complete under these circumstances and I am sure Wenger won’t want to get involved in all that in a crucial period of the season.
