Liverpool target Joel Lopez has confirmed that he is leaving Barcelona this summer.
The 16-year-old has turned down the offer of a new deal at La Masia to move in a bid to push for a move to Arsenal, the Metro reports.
Lopez has been with Barcelona since age seven but has decided to leave in a bid to progress into the first team more quickly with the North London outfit despite interest from Liverpool.
He posted a message on his Facebook which confirmed he will be leaving Barcelona.
“The day has come to say goodbye to what has been my home these last seven years,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Thanks to FC Barcelona, it will be the club that I always carry in my heart for wonderful moments that I have lived with my companions, physios, coaches, delegates, executives. Magnificent people who have made me feel welcome from the first day.
“It was a difficult decision but after contemplating it with my family I made the decision to go and start a new stage as a footballer with great enthusiasm.
“Thanks to all who have been there always. Visca Barca!”
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the pacey right back but it is understood Raul Sanllehi was able to convince the 16-year-old in moving to Emirates.
