Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has backed Gunners forward Alexander Lacazette to fully achieve his World Class potential and match the ruthless ability of Kareem Benzema.
The German international while recently speaking to the media disclosed that while Lacazette’s playing style differs from that of his ex teammate Benzema, he however believes his current teammate could go on to match Benzema and deliver the goods for both club and country.
“I think Lacazette’s game is different,” Ozil told SFR Sport via Squakwa on comparisons between Lacazette and Benzema.
“But I hope he will have as much success as Benzema. He has his head on his shoulders, he works hard.
“I hope he scores as many goals as Benzema with the French national team”
The Arsenal forward has already followed Benzema out of the Lyon academy where he broke through the youth ranks. The 29-year-old Madrid striker has long since established himself at the Bernabeu since leaving Lyon back in 2009.
Benzema’s efforts of 148 total goals earned him the move to Real Madrid where he remains an integral part to their attacking side. He has since scored 182 career goals at the Bernabeu enjoying an illustrious playing career, winning two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.
Having played behind both men, Ozil’s belief that Lacazette could match the levels of Benzema would surely delight Wenger and Gooners alike.
The 26-year-old who arrived at the Emirates from Lyon this summer for a club-record fee of £50million has already hit the ground running, scoring six goals in 11 appearances for the Gunners thus far this season.
