Everton vs Chelsea Preview

Everton:

Everton currently sit 15th in the league, with 3 draws from 3 games, with their last 2 games ending in a disappointing 0-0. Now, defensively, Everton have always been great because that’s where their talent is, but going forward is where they suffered, and have had to play youngsters.

Selling Fellaini on the last day of the transfer window didn’t help matters. They brought in James McCarthy from Wigan, who I think is a wonderful player, and will fit nicely to Everton’s team, and knows the manager very well. But whether or not he can be the main player at Everton is yet to be seen.

It’s a step up from Wigan, and Everton paid a lot of money for the player (13m) so they have confidence in him, and I feel he is ready to have that step up. They also brought in Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, who is a player Everton have cried out for since last season, He will score goals, something Everton lacked during the first few games of this season, and a striker was what they needed.

Unfortunately, Lukaku can’t play against Chelsea as he’s on loan from his parent club, but throughout the season, he will be one of the best buys of the transfer window. They also added Gareth Barry to their squad, on a season-long loan from Man City, which is a great buy for them, and someone who will take charge of the midfield area.

A player who has shone for Everton recently is Ross Barkley, who is a young talented midfielder, and I hope that with the new additions coming into the squad, Barkley still keeps his place, which he has rightfully deserved.

Key Player: I want to say Baines or Jagielka, as I feel Everton will be under a lot of pressure defensively. However, going forward, and with his set pieces, Baines gets the nod for the key player.

Chelsea:

Chelsea sit second in the Premier League after 3 games, with 2 wins, and 1 draw. The draw, was a 0-0 against Man Utd away, which is a good result.

It’s hard to predict who will start for Chelsea, as Mourinho loves to change players, and he has yet to start players like Mata, like Luiz, and the talent at Chelsea is overwhelming. I believe there won’t be changes defensively, as he’ll stick with Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, and Cole, who have performed well for the team in the Premier League so far.

We did see David Luiz play against Bayern Munich in the Super Cup, but I feel he’ll lose his place again. I see David Luiz as a wonderful player, but not as a central defender. He should be playing just ahead of the defenders.

In midfield, they are overloaded with talent, and it’s very hard to pick and choose which players will play. I believe the only person who is guaranteed to  start, and has played 90 minutes in all 3 games so far, is Frank Lampard. The new addition of Willian is a wonderful buy, but it’ whether or not Chelsea needed him, with the amount of attacking mid-fielders already at the club. I feel with so many players fighting for a place, that some players will have to play a lot less football this season than expected.

For forwards, they added Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala. The 32-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the club, and I can see him starting against Everton, as Fernando Torres isn’t cutting it in the premier league yet again.

Key Player: It’s hard to choose a key player, as you don’t know who will start the game, but I’m going to say Oscar who has played well this season in the first 3 games.

Predicted Score: I see Chelsea winning the game 2-0, with Everton failing to score again, as they can’t play Lukaku, and their other strikers are struggling to hit the back of the net.
