Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Preview
Man Utd sit in 7th place in the Premier League, having played 3 games, won one, drew one, and lost one. The latter being a 1-0 defeat against rivals Liverpool.
They added Fellaini from Everton on the last day of the transfer window, but looking at who have they in midfield, and have played so far this season, they’re still lacking. We’ve yet to see Kagawa and Zaha play for United in the Premier League.
Zaha played a lot of pre-season, but has yet to feature under new boss Moyes. I was surprised that Zaha didn’t go out on loan, until I looked at Utd’s midfield, and they are lacking. They have talent who hasn’t played well for them since last season, and the fact that Ryan Giggs has been their best midfield player this season tells you a lot.
Keeping want away striker Wayne Rooney will do them good, and I hope that he is settled now, and will continue to be the player that we saw him be in the Chelsea game, as he ran that match. He is currently suffering with a head injury and has a 50% chance of playing against Crystal Palace, but as it’s a lesser team, I expect him to stay out of the squad, as I feel Man Utd have the talent to cope without Rooney.
I’m still surprised with what little business David Moyes did during the transfer window, and it may come back to haunt Utd if some players pick up injuries. It doesn’t look like a huge team with great talent, especially midfield-wise if you compare it to Chelsea’s team, but I’m sure Fellaini can shine for them, and will offer them different options from set-pieces.
I’m very happy with Danny Welbeck’s start to the season, and hope that he can keep his form up throughout the season as he’s a wonderful young player.
Key Player: It has to go to van Persie, simply because he’s van Persie. Playing against a team like Crystal Palace, you’d expect Utd to score goals, and you would expect van Persie’s name to be on that scoresheet.
Crystal Palace are coming off a high with a great 3-1 win against Sunderland, and they currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League. Before that they had lost their first two opening games, but this could be the start of Ian Holloway turning things around.
The worry for me is looking at the Palace team, and seeing how many of their players are injured. A lot of defenders and midfield players are out, and we’ll see if that is a factor come 90minutes against Man Utd.
The recent addition of Barry Bannan from Aston Villa is a great signing, and I think he will boss their midfield, and be the main man for them going forward throughout the season.
Their strike force of Gayle and Chamakh has worked so far, but whether or not they will take their chances giving to them on Saturday is yet to be seen.
Key Player: I feel Barry Bannan will be the key player for Palace in this game, and one to watch throughout the season for them.
Predicted Score: I can see Man Utd winning the game easily. With the amount of injuries Palace have, I feel it’ll be a 4-1 victory to Man Utd.
