Arsenal are one of the three clubs reportedly looking to sign Brazil U17 attacking midfielder, Alan Guimarães.
This is according to Spanish publication AS, which claim Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all looking to sign the 17 year old Brazilian.
It is not surprising to see a 17 year old especially from Brazil attracting interest from top clubs in Europe.
What is a bit surprising is that Guimarães who is yet to break into his club’s first team reportedly has a mammoth €50m release clause in his contract.
Guimarães currently plays for Palmeiras U17 team and is also a regular for Brazil’s U17 team.
Last week, it was claimed that he’s reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid despite the Spaniards unwilling to meet his release clause.
A report by the Daily Cannon is now suggesting that a move to Madrid isn’t done yet as Arsenal and a couple of English clubs are interested in Guimarães.
What makes Guimarães so special that he is attracting interest from top clubs?
The 17 year old was one of the stars of South America U17 championships and it was in that competition that he caught the eye of his current admirers. He’s currently part of the Brazil team that has reached the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing FIFA U17 world cup taking place in China.
It does seem like Guimarães is a very talented lad and that’s why Arsenal’s name has been thrown up as one of his admirers.
However, I don’t think we will meet the €50m release clause in his contract. It’s almost unthinkable, knowing our history in the transfer market, that we’d do that.
