After defeating Norwich 2-0 on Saturday, Roberto Martinez hopes Everton continues to win games and earn a top four finish at the end of the season. The toffees moved up to fourth place after securing a home win with goals from Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas.
Roberto Martinez has admitted that the table will fluctuate until the very end and he will not take it into consideration until the last nine games of the season.
Speaking at a press – conference, Roberto Martinez said, “The last nine games. In the league, I like to work towards the final third of the season.
“When you go into the last nine games of the campaign, that is when you get that extra significance from every point depending on where you are in the table and whether the other results affect your position.
“At the moment we’re still trying to get as many points as we can and we’re working towards that tally.
“Remember the last four games of the season at home – they are against the teams that we are fighting at the moment so we try just to get better and better.
“I thought some of the play we had was electrifying and really very good. We need to keep on improving and hope we can get into that final nine games of the season as strong as we can be.”
Everton faces West Brom before travelling to Anfield for the Merseyside derby. The toffees drew the derby they played at home with 3-3 draw. With both the clubs fighting for a place in top four, the match will be equally important for both Liverpool and Everton.
