One of the highest paid football players in the world and one of the best players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo has called penalty shoot-outs as “luck.”
His last season in La Liga has given pleasant memories as well as terrible. The good is La Liga’s title win for Real Madrid; the bad is lost in Champions League semi-finals against Bayern Munich.
He took first kick in penalty shoot-outs in Champions League semi-finals, and he failed to score that.
It continues on his Euro 2012 tour. Portugal reached semi-finals, and they have played against Euro 2012 Champions Spain. They lost in penalty shoot-out, but Ronaldo didn’t take his kick. He planned to take last kick, but they lost before it reaches last kick.
Ronaldo is playing in La Liga for Real Madrid from 2009, and he scored 112 goals in 101 appearances so far. In his previous club Manchester United, he scored 84 goals in 196 matches.
He is the first player who scored 40 goals in Four European Leagues in consecutive years.
He has told penalty shoot-out is completely come under luck, and no one can judge that.
Ronaldo said: “It was very hard what I went through last season. First, with Madrid against Bayern, and then with Portugal at the Euros. With Real Madrid, in the semi-finals of the Champions League, I took the first and missed; against Spain I decided to take the last one, but could not,”
“For me, penalties ultimately come down to luck. So for me I’d say that it was very unfortunate to have so much bad luck in such a short space of time, and at crucial moments.
“Everyone will have their own ideas of whether to take the first, the second, or the last, but in the end it is a bit of a lottery.”
Though he is the second top scorer in La Liga’s last season, he is telling penalty is about Luck. This is football.
