Paris Saint-Germain are looking to steal a march on Manchester City in the race to sign Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez by lodging a winter offer for the Chilean when the transfer window reopens in January.
The 28-year-old forward who has less than a year on his contract made his intention known about wanting to leave the Emirates during last summer window, the Paris club were credited with an interest in the player during last summer’s transfer window but cooled their efforts to sign him after making Neymar and Kylian Mbappe the two most expensive players in the World in an astonishing window.
City who were then favorites for his signature came agonizingly close to getting him on deadline day after their offer of £60million was accepted by the Gunners. All was not to be in the end as Sanchez obviously remained at the Emirates after the move failed.
Recent reports are however now indicating that PSG retain an interest in the player’s services and will look to beat City to his signature by making their move in January as against City who are understood to be waiting to land him on a free at the end of the season.
According to the Express via Daily Cannon, PSG are ready to offer £26.5m for Alexis in the winter window. That would be more than a decent price for the Gunners for a player who by then would have less than six months on his contract and also considering the French club could just sign a pre-contract with the Chilean in January and pick him up for free in the summer.
The French club may however need to overcome a couple of obstacles for the deal to happen. Firstly, despite the obvious tempting offer, it remains unclear as to whether Wenger would sanction the sale of such a key player at the midpoint of the season. His departure and the difficulty in signing top players in January could have a damning effect on the Gunners hopes of achieving set targets come the end of the season.
Secondly, the player is understood to have prioritized a move to the Etihad as he wants to be reunited with Pep Guardiola, whom he played under during their spell at Barcelona.
