Shaqiri, 26, is set to leave Stoke this summer following their relegation from the Premier League and a number of clubs have been weighing up moves for the Switzerland winger.

Liverpool have lately emerged as a potential destination with Jurgen Klopp hunting support for his frontline.

Shaqiri could arrive at Anfield on the cheap as back-up to the likes of widemen Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The former Inter Milan forward has a £12m release clause, with the Swiss playmaker almost definitely leaving Stoke this summer.

The Reds are still reeling after missing out on the signing of Lyon ace Fekir.

The French club posted a statement saying that they have pulled out negotiations amid mysterious circumstances.

Reports have suggested that a breakdown in communications happened after a problem was found with Fekir’s knee in the medical.

However, the  Liverpool Echo claims Klopp will go ahead with the Shaqiri deal to make up for the disappointment.
