Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny says he chose to join Juventus rather than staying at Arsenal because he wants to win trophy.
Szczesny completed a shock move to Juve in July and many questioned his decision to go play second fiddle to Buffon rather than challenge Cech for a spot in Arsenal’s first team.
Prior to the move, the goalkeeper wanted assurances from Arsene Wenger over his involvement in Arsenal’s first team, so many of us were surprise to see him go sit on Juve’s bench.
He has now revealed the flimsy reason for choosing the Italians.
“I chose Juve because I need to win everything, here is a great mentality that makes a difference every day,” he said, as reported by the Daily Cannon.
“Inside the dressing room I feel stronger and quicker. It was a normal choice: when Juve calls you, you have to go, and I’m very happy. (Paulo) Dybala is out of this world, among the best around, right after (Leo) Messi, (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Robert) Lewandowski.”
Szczesny’s comment may be considered a sly dig towards Arsenal but I think the goalkeeper is just trying to justify his decision to go sit on Juve’s bench until Buffon retires next summer.
