Former Arsenal players have been weighing in on the club’s transfer matters this January, and this time Paul Mariner has suggested that Chelsea signing Olivier Giroud will be good for all parties, according to the Daily Star.

The Metro earlier reported that another Arsenal great Ray Palour believes Chelsea should go for Giroud, he told Sky Sports that “He would be perfect. Whether Arsenal would want to lose another of their players to a rival is another matter.

‘But I am sure if Chelsea put a decent bid in he would be tempted because he hasn’t got to move, he can live in London, a bit like Petr Cech. He was settled in London and wanted to stay there.

Paul Merson followed in with “They were looking at Carroll, now they are talking about Crouch – Giroud is the answer.

‘If they are looking for someone who is big and strong and can come on and change a game I don’t see anybody better. Giroud is very underrated.”

The Daily Mail now claims Chelsea are considering a move for Olivier Giroud if their pursuit of Roma’s Edin Dzeko fails, but believe Arsene Wenger will not sanction his sale to a top four rival.

However, Paul Mariner believes that a move such move will be great for all parties. He said: “I feel sorry for this guy, I really do,” Mariner said: “He’s been offered to a lot of teams in Europe.

“That would be a great move for him. It suits his wife; she doesn’t want to leave London.

“I say get over there mate. He needs game time.”

As Paul said, Giroud needs game time ahead of the World Cup, but after being forced to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, Wenger will not want to sell another player to a top four rival again. There’s also the possibility of using him in their bid to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

  1. It doesnt matter who he goes to .
    Just go .
He cant run , no ball control , no first , second or last touch .
When he plays we are down half a man .
Yes , he gets goals , but , compared to chances , poor return .
    Go , Giroud , go .
