A report via Sky Sports confirms Arsenal are on the brink of signing Bernd Leno from Bayern Leverkusen this summer.

The report further claims new Arsenal boss wants to give Petr Cech tough competition in goal next season and he has identified the 26 year old German goalkeeper.

German outlet SportBild say Arsenal have moved quickly for Leno with the signing likely to happen imminently.

The German goal stopper was not selected to represent his country for this year World Cup despite his outstanding performance in the Bundesliga; he kept 12 clean sheets in all competitions for his team last season.

Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller recently explained to Bild: “Leno can leave but only on our terms.

“We are still in constant and open exchange with Bernd and his manager.

Leno already had a concrete offer from Napoli in 2017, but we didn’t have an equivalent backup at the time.

“He had to stay and he did really well last season, but we thought Bernd’s desire to leave would resurface and so with the arrival of Lukas Hradecky, we have a high quality successor.”

The German club are said to want a minimum of £22m for the goalkeeper.

Emery has already bolstered the defence with the free transfer of Stephan Lichtsteiner and a £16 million deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Goalkeeper and central midfield are two other priorities and there is now firm interest in both Leno and Torreira.
