Watford are close to signing Kieran Gibbs according to reports.
Gibbs was the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs this summer but none of them were able to agree a fee with the Gunners.
Watford were first to register their interest in the defender but pulled out of negotiations due to Arsenal’s high valuation but they have now returned for Gibbs after the Gunners indicated they are willing to negotiate a lower fee.
According to Sky Sports, Watford and Arsenal have reached an agreement over the transfer of the defender.
Both clubs resumed negotiations a fortnight ago and have quickly reached an agreement that we see the defender join the Hornets permanently.
Gibbs is reportedly keen on the move and that could have played a crucial part in the swift negotiations.
After rejecting a £10m bid from West Brom last month, Gibbs isn’t expected to cost Watford less than that even though Arsenal had to reduce its asking price.
The move brings an end to an eleven year union between Gibbs and Arsenal. The England international lost his place in the starting xi to Nacho Monreal two seasons ago and never looked capable of winning it back.
