Mauricio Pochettino has quashed reports suggesting Toby Alderweireld isn’t settled at Tottenham Hotspur.
During the summer, reports claimed Alderweireld is one of Spurs stars who isn’t happy with the club’s wage structure.
Chelsea were immediately linked with the defender but they were never going to sign him anyway.
It is believed that the Blues as well as Manchester City are currently monitoring the defender’s situation.
The Belgium international is seeking for a better pay package at Spurs and as a result, he is stalling on signing a new contract.
His agent recently claimed the defender could seek a transfer away from Spurs if talks continue to stall but Pochettino has played down that suggestion by claiming the defender is happy and there is no reason for him to leave.
‘It is true, there is a lot of rumour in the last few days,’ said the Tottenham boss, as quoted by the Metro.
‘He was talking with me in my office this morning.
‘He is happy, he wants to make fully clear his position that he is fully committed to the club.
‘He is happy with his contract – two years plus one – but it is not easy. I recognise that in the last few days there have been some rumours but he is so happy and so calm. His idea is to try and play here and he has no reason to move.’
