Peirre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that fellow new signing Henrikh Mhkitaryan played a huge role in convincing him to join Arsenal, according to the Express.
Aubameyang joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day in a £56 million move from Dortmund, before that Mhkitartyan had already arrived from Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford.
Aubameyang has now revealed that Mhkitaryan who played with him at Dortmund convinced him to join the Gunners with a call.
Aubameyang told the Arsenal Weekly Podcast: “It’s like [being reunited with] a brother, a good friend.
“We played together in the past and I’m really happy to see him again.
“He called me a few times, he asked ‘will you come or not?’ I said ‘first you have to tell me if you sign or not’.
“He told me all was done and of course it was a big factor in coming here.”
The two players made their home debut against Everton, and what a debut it was. Mhkitaryan provided three assists including one for Aubameyang to score on his debut, to highlight their understanding of each other.
Speaking on their understanding, He said “We understand each other on and off the pitch, that’s why it’s easier on the pitch.
“[The fans] have to be happy [to see us together], we will do our best of course, like we did in the past.”
Mhkitaryan assisted the Gunners both on and off the pitch, and they will be hoping for more of his assistance as they begin their fight for a Champions League spot.
