Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has been caught saying that Cesc Fabregas will certainly leave Barcelona in the summer for €33 million. Pique was caught revealing the information to Vicente del Bosque just before the start of the press conference, but the defender was unaware that the microphones were switched on. This is likely to confirm rumours that Fabregas would be allowed to leave the Camp Nou for around £30 million. Pique said:
“Someone needs to stand up for Cesc. He’s told me it’s a done deal. He’s leaving now for 33 million.”
“The president just can’t seem to catch a break. You’re going to drive the poor guy crazy,” said Del Bosque in his response.
Manchester United were heavily interested in him for several months, but they are now set to lose the battle to Chelsea, who have stepped in at the last moment. The blues are reportedly looking to replace Frank Lampard with a quality player. After having been rebuffed from the likes of Koke and Paul Pogba, Chelsea are thought to be interested in Fabregas.
The 27-year-old has immense experience of playing in the Premier League and will be able to kick on almost immediately. However, his wage demands are thought to be in the region of £200,000 per week. This could pose problems for Chelsea, who are striving hard to comply with the FFP regulations.
Ahead of the World Cup 2014, Fernando Torres also said that the signing of Fabregas would be great for Chelsea since the club does not have a player of his style right now. Interestingly, the club sold Juan Mata, a similar kind of player, to Manchester United only in January.
