Mourinho canceled Chelsea’s traditional Christmas party because of the forthcoming match against Arsenal, unlike their opponents. Most of the players didn’t like that decision, but Ashley Cole went furthest – he appeared on Arsenal’s Christmas party!
Cole drank and had fun on his day off, did Mourinho criticize him?
“I canceled Christmas party, but I gave players day off. They needed it because we worked hard this week, so they’ve got free time to see family and friends, and maybe relax at home. I certainly didn’t mean to go to club and get drunk”, Mourinho said.
“But”, Portuguese manager continued, “I am not Cole’s father, I am his manager. He can spend his spare time whatever he wants, as long as he is capable of getting job done in the game.”
Press asked Mou will Cole play against Arsenal, and Mourinho answered:
“No, he will be on bench, or at home.”
So, Mourinho isn’t that cool with Cole’s behaviour…
Jose Mourinho isn’t happy with the form of his defensive midfielders. Therefore, he will try to sign some players in that position in the January transfer period, and Colombian Fredy Guarin is the first choice.
27-year old defensive midfielder currently plays for Inter Milan, but with arrival of Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, many changes will emerge in Italian club. Most of the player will be on sale, including Guarin, and Mourinho already took advantage on that, and it is pretty sure that he will sign him on a bargain price in January.
Guarin played for Colombian Envigado, Boca Juniors, Sent Etienne and Porto before Inter. Also, he made 47 appearances in Colombian national team, scoring 3 goals.
Former Real Madrid assistant coach has revealed that Iker Casillas was replaced by Diego Lopez as the first team goalkeeper due to his poor performances last year and insisted that there was no misunderstanding between the No 1 and Mourinho.
The new Middlesbrough manager, Aitor Karanka , explained that the Spain International was not forced out of the Los blancos first team by Jose Mourinho due to any fight or misunderstanding between them. Karanka has cleared that Iker Casillas was not playing up to his full potential and was benched due to his bad form. On the contrary, Spanish media reported that Jose and the goalkeeper did not get along well.
“We thought a lot about his situation because we knew he was not just any player. We thought he should be performing better,” he told.
“I don’t know if Iker understood why he was benched. The same thing happened with [Fernando] Hierro, [Manuel] Sanchis and Raul. I think that he must have understood the situation. We were friends. We don’t have that relationship now because I left the club, and in all honesty, during those three years, especially towards the end, our relationship wasn’t great,” he added.
Iker Casillas was injured last December and the team needed an experienced goalkeeper in order to achieve their La Decima dream. In order to place tough hands between the sticks, Real Madrid bought Diego Lopez from Sevilla . The former Villarreal goalkeeper displayed great performances during Casillas’s absence and became Real Madrid’s regular. Casillas, on the other hand, was doubted to gain his full potential back and did not feature in any of the matches in the remainder of the season.
John Terry will remain as Chelsea captain confirms incoming coach Jose Mourinho. The move signals the restoration of the ‘old guard’ which served the former Madrid manager so well in his first spell. But is this is a step in the wrong direction?
One Step Forward and Two Back…
Chelsea have spent the last four seasons putting the building blocks in place for a solid manageable future. Mourinho was hugely successful in his first spell at the club but has a reputation for short term thinking and big spending. His first stint as manager saw the arrival of highly pricy stars such as Drogba, Essien, Cole and Robben.
There was little focus on developing younger talent into the first team squad and already there are suggestions of players such as Brazilian star Hulk being added to the pool. So will Jose’s strategy change or are Chelsea going to be left with another rebuilding process when he moves on once again?
Change of Stance?
Sources close to the club have hinted at a return for on loan Romelu Lukaku, signed with the future in mind, he spent a very successful season at West Brom. It demonstrates that a focus on youth may be part of the new regime.
Only time will tell, but the early signs are more of big spending, entertaining press conferences and domestic success.
Dressing room chemistry is also an issue, the power base of senior players at Chelsea have long held the ability to control. The return of Mourinho could cause dressing room divisions once again and result in the loss of quality players in the long term.
With the return of the “special one” to Stamford Bridge Chelsea fans will all now be expecting their club to return to the top flight of English football, which surprises me when their interim manager Rafa Benitez actually did quite well for the club, with them finishing in third place and qualifying for next seasons Champions League.
They also won the Europa League which isn’t bad for a manager that was only there for seven months. This of course was not good enough for the Chelsea fans, as all they were ever going to settle for was having Mourinho back. A lot of bwin football offers will be taken up to make a bet on this move happening!
After only being in place for a day Mourinho has announced his new signing Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £20 million with an official announcement to be made Wednesday night.
Along with Schurrle I expect to see the Blues make a move for Manchester City’s Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, and if reports in the British tabloid Sun are to be believed he might also go for 28-year-old Wesley Sneijder.
“The Galatasaray playmaker is set to move to Chelsea according to reports in Turkey… Sneijder has struggled under boss Fatih Terim and the Turkish club will listen to a ‘reasonable’ offer.”
Speaking at a press conference after being announced as the new Chelsea manager, something that has to go down as the worst kept secret of the year, Mourinho said:
“We have to improve the team, and when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea is going to spend.”
“When I say improve the team I am saying improving by work. If after that we can improve the team by buying a couple of players it is fantastic. In the last two years we were struggling in the Premier League.
“I like the profile, I like the fact we have three, four or five players from the beginning and I think they have to be always a part of the Chelsea soul.
“The profile of the younger players with long-term space for improvement and development, I like very much. With the immediate age of Eden Hazard, Oscar, David Luiz and these boys, I think it will be good for me to work with them and good for them to work with me.
“It’s a young squad with a lot of talent and I think they need stability to reach a high point of their evolution and for their careers.”
Since having the man Abramovich wanted to sign Radamel Falcao stolen from Chelsea by AS Monaco another club that has big plans, my feeling is that Brazilian striker Hulk could also be on the cards, along with Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
All this means despite what Mourinho might say about developing players, is that the west London club will be shopping for talent, so look for Chelsea to spend big this summer, as their owner wants nothing but the top prizes for his team.
