It seemed for a while following the opening day loss to Aston Villa and the fact that no summer signings were on the horizon after losing out on Gonzalo Higuain, and being knocked back by Liverpool for their leading striker that the fans were ready to turn on manager Arsene Wenger if he did not spend money soon.

Things improved of course for the Gunners bouncing back in their next game against Fulham winning 3-1 and then the local derby win against bitter rivals Tottenham at the Emirates that saw the Gunners celebrate a 1-0 win.

Despite the two wins Wenger was still to sign anyone even though he was promising to do so as the transfer clock deadline was fast approaching Arsenal announced their big coup signing Real Madrid’s German international midfielder Mesut Özil for £42.5 million.

Fellow German international and Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack believes that Özil is at the peak of his career, and that the 24-year-old could very well be a game changer for Arsenal.

“Mesut is a young player and at his peak,” he said. “He is an outstanding player, who joined a new club; I don’t think it’s a problem [being nervous about playing in England].

“Arsenal is a great club and paid a lot of money for him. That proves his exceptional standing on international level, this amount is not common.

“I really hope everything works well for him, he will be an addition to the league especially with his technical skills and pace with the ball.

Özil joins two of his current German teammates Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at the Emirates with the fans hoping to see him in action against Sunderland on September the 14th.
