The Road to Wembley- Last 16 to Quarter-Finals

[tabs type=”horizontal”][tabs_head][tab_title]Last Sixteen[/tab_title][tab_title]Quarter-Finals[/tab_title][/tabs_head][tab]The last sixteen draw saw Porto vs Malaga, Shakhtar vs Dortmund, Real Madrid vs Man Utd, Galatasaray vs Schalke 04, Arsenal vs Bayern Munich, Celtic vs Juventus, Valencia vs PSG and AC Milan vs Barcelona.

Malaga would beat Porto 2-1 on aggregate, turning around a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, winning 2-0. Shakhtar were beaten 5-2 by Borussia Dortmund. Galatasaray would beat Schalke 4-3 over two legs. Celtic were comfortably beaten by Juventus, 5-0, after both games were hard fought by the Scottish team. Arsenal drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich on aggregate, but Bayern would go on to go through on away goals after winning 3-1 in London. Barcelona beat Milan 4-2 over two legs, after Milan beat Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg. Valencia were beaten 3-2 by PSG. The most controversial games came with Real Madrid and Man Utd as Man Utd were beaten 3-2 on aggregate after it looked as though Madrid were heading out in Manchester until Nani was sent off, and Real went on to score two goals to head through to the last eight.[/tab][tab]The quarter-finals saw Malaga drawn against Dortmund. Real Madrid against Galatasary. PSG vs Barcelona, and Bayern against Juventus.

Dortmund went on to beat Malaga 3-2 over two legs, but after a goalless draw in the first leg, their goals came late on as Malaga were 2-1 up, heading into the 90th minute, with Dortmund scoring in the 91st and 93rd to send them through to the semi-finals. Real Madrid looked comfortable after their first leg 3-0 win, however Galatasaray didn’t quit in the second leg, and it took a late goal from Ronaldo in the 92nd minute to secure a 5-3 win on aggregate. PSG and Barcelona drew 3-3 on aggregate, but Barcelona went through on away goals, after scoring two in Paris. However, Barcelona struggled without Messi as he was taken off injured during the first-leg and brought back on in the second leg as a substitute, which turned around the game and Barcelona went on to win.

 

Bayern were comfortable winners against Juventus, winning both legs 2-0, and easily heading into the semi-finals with a 4-0 win over aggregate.
