Arsene Wenger is prepared to listen to offers for Jack Wilshere as the club continues to weigh up the midfielder’s future.
Wilshere is one of those who is into the final year of their contracts but the club is yet to decide whether to keep him or not.
He’s been linked with West Ham and Sampdoria already this summer but a move hasn’t materialized.
Wenger had yet to make a decision on Wilshere’s future before the midfielder stepped up his recovery from a leg injury for Arsenal’s U23 last week but a dismissal in that game has swayed the manager’s mind towards letting the midfielder go.
In his pre match press conference ahead of the game against Liverpool, Wenger refused to rule out selling Wilshere before the transfer window closes.
“I’m open with Jack,” the manager said, as quoted by the Mirror. “
We have honest conversations. I’m open to what is the best for him. He is at the stage of his career where he needs to play and I can’t guarantee him that today. I think I’m quite open on that.”
From the boss’ comments, it is obvious that keeping Wilshere isn’t the club’s priority and they would allow him leave if a suitable offer comes in.
Injuries have played a key part in stalling the midfielder’s career and he will definitely need to be playing regularly to get back to his best. Like Wenger rightly said, the chances of doing so at Arsenal is very slim.
This also shows how injuries have blighted Wilshere’s career in the last few years, the one time midfielder who looked indispensable at the club is now struggling to save his future
