Premier League side Everton are expected to rival Arsenal in the race to sign promising Charlton defender Ezri Konsa in the New Year.
The central defender has been heavily impressive for the League One side and has unsurprisingly began to attract Premier League interest.
Wenger is understood to be keen to sign at least one central defender next year, the gaffer failed to sign a direct replacement after Gabriel moved to Valencia last summer coupled with Per Mertesacker set to hang up his boots at the end of the current campaign.
Recent reports have revealed Konsa is under serious consideration at the Emirates as Wenger continues to assess various options in the window. It is ESPN via Daily Cannon that has disclosed that several Premier League clubs are reportedly set to make a move for the centre-back in January with Arsenal and now Everton chiefs among them.
The Merseyside club signed Charlton forward Ademola Lookman for £11m last January and are supposedly confident of landing Konsa as they enjoy a positive relationship with the League One side.
It is also understood that Charlton have allegedly resigned themselves to the fact that they are losing Konsa due to his unbelievable potential despite the 20-year-old who has been at the club for his entire career having about three years on his current contract.
This season, the England under-20 international has played 17 times for the Addicks thus far, providing one assist while he has made 56 appearances since his first team debut in the 2015/16 season against Cheltenham Town in the League Cup.
Despite the potential he possesses and already experiencing first team football, should Konsa make a move to the Emirates, the step up in quality may prove to much to handle as he would initially be expected to bide some time in the youth ranks or on loan to gain some much needed experience before being eased into the senior squad.
