Arsenal could sign Brazil U17 attacking midfielder Alan Guimarães for less than his reported release clause, according to a report in the Daily Cannon.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all believed to be interested in signing the 17 year old.
Last week it was claimed that the youngster has a £44m release clause in his contract which must be activated by any suitors However, Brazil based newspaper Globo Esporte has now revealed that the player’s clause is £13.3m and not the £44m that was first reported.
The 17 year old has put himself on the spotlight with his performances in the just concluded FIFA U17 world cup.
However, Palmeiras have no intention of selling the youngman. They want him to continue is development with them until they believe he is ready for the physical demands of professional football.
Guimarães currently plays for Palmeiras U17 team and may actually have to stay in his homeland if he wants to fulfill his potential.
Very few players have left Brazil fo Europe at such a young age and then go on to become top players.
There are a good examples of South Americans that moved too early, with former Gunner Denilson a prime example.
Denilson joined from Sao Paulo at the age of 14, with huge promise but couldn’t make it at Arsenal and was eventually moved back to Brazil.
Personally, I think it’s better for players to attain a certain level of maturity before moving to Europe. If Guimarães stays and develop better at Palmeiras, I am sure Arsenal will be among the clubs trying to sign him in the future.
