Barcelona are keeping an eye on Mesut Ozil and could make a move for him in the January transfer window.
Barca are desperate to sign a playmaker, having failed to sign Coutinho in the summer transfer window.
The Liverpool man remains Barcelona’s top target but the Spanish giants are ready to turn their attention to an alternative option in Ozil, who is considered a more realistic target.
Mundo Deportivo via the Daily Cannon say Barca are going to make a January move for Ozil.
The report say Ozil is valued at £45m but Arsenal aren’t expected to net anything close to that if it decide to sell, considering the German will be into the final six months of his contract by that time.
Barca believe they can get Ozil a lot less than they will have to pay for Countinho and are seriously considering a move for the former Madrid man.
The German may be older than his Brazilian counterpart but he has an edge due to his knowledge of the Spanish league and the fact that he will not be cup-tied if a January move does happen.
As for Arsenal, it’s a delicate situation. If Ozil’s contract situation doesn’t make any progress between now and the new year, we will have to decide between selling him or losing him for nothing next summer.
Wenger has already hinted at the possibility of selling the German, while that could be dangerous to our title chances, it remains to be seen what decision will make.
