Arsenal are understood to be lining up a shock move for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.
The Welshman is currently having a season to forget with form and fitness keeping him on the sidelines for majority of the campaign.
Following the loss of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the last window and the expected departure of Alexis Sanchez in one of the next two windows, Wenger is understood to be monitoring a few top options in the wide areas capable of making an instant impact next season.
Whilst a host of young top talents filled with bags of potential have been linked as the targeted Sanchez replacement depending on the source you choose to believe, reports in Spain have now indicated that the Gunners would instead opt for a ready-made star and have identified the former Tottenham star man as being capable of filling the void the Chilean’s exit would create at the Emirates.
It is Don Balon via Sports Mole that have today revealed that Arsenal are set to gazump rivals Manchester United in the race for Bale and have already made a move. The report further states that the move could very happen as the player is already “considering it”.
Although the 28-year-old is said to be “concerned about the possible rift he would cause by joining his former side’s greatest rivals but he is extremely keen to return to London” after growing unhappy with life in the Spanish capital, as per the above source.
Spurs themselves are believed to have a clause in their contract for the sale of Bale that allows them to match any offer for the player from a Premier League rival. With no reported interest from Spurs, the Welsh international could very well be making a move to the Emirates should he leave the Spanish capital.
News of Wenger’s interest in a World Class player like Bale would surely be music to Gunners and Gooners alike. With ability he posses coupled with his Premier League experience, he surely would be a more than capable replacement for Alexis.
