Manchester United are ready to make a formal offer for Nikola Milenkovic, according to reports.
The Fiorentina defender was wanted by Jose Mourinho and remains high on United’s wishlist despite sacking the Portuguese in December.
Milenkovic is also being tracked by Manchester City, but no official bid has come in for the centre-back.
TuttoSport claim United are poised to firm up their interest and want to go all out to sign Milenkovic. Defence continues to be an issue for United and the board are considering several centre-backs.
Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is top of their list, but the defender would cost upwards of £80m and is unavailable in January.
United are reportedly prepared to spend big on a centre-back this month, but only if the right player becomes available.
Milenkovic is valued at £45m by his club. The 21-year-old is under contract at Fiorentina until 2022. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his United players are currently in Dubai at a warm-weather training camp.
It is the first time Solskjaer has the chance to drill home his message to the United squad over an extended period of time.
United do not play until Sunday, when they travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham in the Premier League.
