Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock are two of the most valuable u21 central midfielders in the world, according to Transfermarkt valuations.
A graphic spreading around social media at the moment shows the top-10 most valuable central midfielders under the age of 21 at the moment, with two Arsenal players making the top three. Joe Willock and Matteo Guendouzi are the duo to feature on the list.
The data comes from Transfermarkt, who assign players a market value based on a number of factors. Age, contract length, appearances and so on. Guendouzi is top in this specific category, with a value of £45m.
Manchester City’s Phil Foden is second on the list, at £27m. Then Willock is next at £16.2m. Clearly, Guendouzi has quite a lead on the competition right now.
Obviously, if Arsenal could get anywhere near that kind of money for the two players, they’ve done a great job. Willock is an academy product, costing nothing but what the club already spend on their staff and facilities. Guendouzi came in for less than £10m.
Right now, the two are first-team regulars. Guendouzi is on 31 appearances for the campaign, the most of any Arsenal player. Willock is one behind on 30. Neither are starting as often as they’d like in recent weeks, but for their ages, they’re still involved a lot.
