Arsenal have reportedly returned with an improve bid to match Tottenham’s for Saint-Etienne William Saliba.

The Gunners had reached an agreement to sign Saliba in a £25m deal but Tottenham reportedly gazumped the Gunners offer to become favourites to land the youngster.

Unai Emery’s men ranked third in terms of number of goals scored in the league last season but their undoing was their leaky defense line.

If Arsenal must return to the first quartet of the league table or even win any trophy, they must fix their defense and the club have identified Saliba as part of the long term solution to their defensive problems.

However, the initial agreement reported with Arsenal is said to include a loan clause for Saliba to return to Saint Etienne for one season.

While the fans of Arsenal are ruing the paucity of funds at the club, there seem to be hope the club can still get their man before the close of the window.

RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi, claim Arsenal have matched offers from Tottenham to sign Saliba.

Saint-Etienne would definitely be glad with this as the stakes for the player may well rise over the coming days.

Meanwhile, Saliba may not get into the first team of Tottenham instantly but he’s somewhat guaranteed first team football at Arsenal, hence, his choice should not be difficult.
