Ainsley Maitland-Niles (fibula fracture), Sead Kolasinac (knee), Laurent Koscielny (Achilles) and Carl Jenkinson (ankle) are long-term absentees, but the club confirmed on Thursday that there were no further injury doubts going into Saturday’s encounter with West Ham.

Lucas Torreira is a strong candidate to oust Granit Xhaka in midfield, having come off the bench to replace the out-of-sorts Swiss international in the first two matches of the season.

While Unai Emery ruled out playing two central strikers in Thursday’s press conference, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won’t take to the field together this weekend.

In such an eventuality, Aubameyang would move out to the left flank to allow Lacazette the sole striker’s role, though Alex Iwobi’s fine performance on the wing in the defeat to Chelsea gives Emery a selection dilemma.

Aaron Ramsey could threaten Mesut Ozil’s start in the hole, having replaced the German midfielder at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.
