Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Roberto Firmino is “ready to start” against Southampton and the Brazilian would seem the most assured of featuring in Klopp’s starting XI after only appearing as a substitute in Europe in midweek.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah look most at risk if Klopp decides to rotate, with Xherdan Shaqiri – who had to make do with a five-minute cameo against Paris Saint-Germain – the likeliest to benefit in such an eventuality.
Klopp also talked up the prospect of Firmino and Daniel Sturridge lining up in the same team at some point, though Sturridge played 72 minutes on Tuesday and may be back on the bench at Anfield on Saturday.
Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Divock Origi are nearing returns to the first-team after injury, but all three are unavailable for selection for the visit of the Saints.
Dominic Solanke trained on Friday after suffering a concussion, meanwhile.
Joel Matip, Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno stand to profit from any rotation in defence, but Klopp downplayed the “Tuesday-Saturday” turnaround in his press conference on Friday.
Naby Keita would seem set to return to the starting XI after sitting out in midweek, with Jordan Henderson perhaps the likeliest to make way.
