Manchester United made a £50 million bid for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey during the summer but were turned down, according to the Metro.
The Welshman looked set to commit his future to the Gunners at the time as he had just won the club’s Player of the Season award and was set to play a key role in the new manager Unai Emery’s plan, so a reported approach from Jose Mourinho’s side was rejected.
That now seems a distant memory as it has become apparent in his seven appearances this season that he doesn’t fit into the style of play Emery wants to implement, and the club recently pulled out of contract renewal negotiations with him.
The Gunners found themselves in a similar situation to the one they were in last season with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, as Ramsey was demanding a huge salary package. But the club decided they would not be forced into giving out another huge contract and they’ve ended negotiations.
They let Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United in a swap deal for Henrikh Mhkitaryan in January, and Ramsey could join him at Old Trafford if Jose Mourinho’s side tempt the Gunners with a reasonable bid in the next winter transfer window, or convince the 27-year-old to join them on a free at the end of the season.
