Premier League giants Manchester United are plotting an offer for Chelsea captain Gary Cahill after the England star was informed he is free to quit Stamford Bridge.

According to a UK Metro report citing Express, the 32-year-old has been assured by club’s chiefs that they will not stop him from leaving if a credible offer that satisfies everyone concerned in the winter transfer window in January.

Interestingly, in the current campaign, Cahill has featured in only six matches for Chelsea this term with Italian boss Maurizio Sarri opting for the pair of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger at centre-back.

The report further suggest that Man United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to table a January bid for the England international, whose contract at Stamford Bridge, expires next summer.

At the last count, the 32-year-old Cahill has claimed the Premier League title under Mourinho at Chelsea, has been linked with a switch to the likes of Southampton, West Ham, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.
