Arsenal drew 2-2 with Southampton on Saturday to heap more pressure on manager Unai Emery.
Arsenal’s form is deteriorating rapidly and Unai Emery is on the brink of the sack, according to Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer.
The Gunners went 1-0 down early on against Southampton after Danny Ings finished off the post before James Ward-Prowse put them in the lead again late on after Alexandre Lacazette’s equaliser.
The Frenchman then scored to level the game again in stoppage time, rescuing a point for Arsenal, who are still seven points off the top four places in the Premier League.
Arsenal are now winless in six games and look some way off seriously challenging for a Champions League spot.
Emery has been under pressure for weeks and his job is thought to be hanging in the balance as the Christmas period approaches.
Arsenal were booed off by supporters after the Southampton game and Shearer had some choice words to say of his own on Match of the Day, as he picked out four players who failed to impress for the home side.
“Where do we start? They were sloppy, so bad defensively. [Kieran] Tierney set the tone after a couple of minutes, caught on the ball, poor touches,” he said.
“[Lucas] Torreira then got caught on the ball, Arsenal got away with it. Six players and the manager are moaning to the referee when Southampton score, they were too clever for them.
“David Luiz… by the time the ball is in the net he’s not even in the box, it’s too late, he’s switching off.
“These mistakes are happening every single week trying to play out of the back but they’re not good enough to play out from the back, they keep giving chances away.
“I might get criticised for talking about fouling but what does Kante, Fabinho and Fernandinho do? They foul and they stop attacks.
“It’s a lack of experience from [Matteo Guendouzi] because look at the space Southampton have got to run into.”
Shearer further lambasted Arsenal by stating just how bad defensively they are becoming week after week, before predicting that Emery would get the sack sooner rather than later.
“I see the same thing with Arsenal, they’re terrible defensively every single week, and they’re getting worse,” the former Newcastle striker added.
“I don’t see Emery getting out of it because as I said, they’re getting worse.”
