Southampton are interested in signing Theo Walcott, according to reports.
The Saints are looking to strengthen their squad in January after struggling to score goals this season.
Mauricio Pelligrino wants to use the January transfer window to sign a forward and has made Walcott, who Arsenal are reportedly willing to sell, his top target.
According to the Express, Southampton are desperate to beat a host of clubs to the Walcott’s signature.
Walcott dropped out of Arsenal’s first team last season, after Wenger changed to a 3-4-3 and he is still struggling to get back into the first team.
With 18 months left in his contract, Arsenal may think this is the best opportunity to get the most from a player who has spent over 10 years at the club.
It’s been claimed Arsenal will let Walcott leave in January if he doesn’t show between now and when the transfer window reopens that he has what it takes to get back into the starting xi.
He’s not started a Premier League game this season, making only three substitute appearances where he struggled to make any impact.
Southampton are willing to pay around £12-15m for Walcott but would have to face competition from Inter Milan, Everton and West Ham, all of whom are believed to be keen on the 28 year old.
The England international started is career at Southampton before he was snapped up at age 16 by Arsenal. He has failed to fulfil his potential here and may now have to return to where it all started for him.
