Arsenal are on the verge of signing Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, according to reports.
Of late, the highly exciting midfielder has been rumoured by several sources to be Wenger’s ideal replacement for Alexis Sanchez who is expected to leave the club in one of the next two windows.
Starsport first revealed Arsenal are keen on the playmaker to bolster it’s ranks and had opened talks with Lyon over a potential move.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas subsequently denied any intention to sell the striker.
However, Transfermarketweb via Daily Star has now revealed that an agreement between Lyon and Arsenal which will see Fekir move to the Emirates is getting closer.
The player has been penciled down as Sanchez’s successor. It remains to be seen whether a move will be finalized in the winter transfer window or next summer.
It would make sense to assume Fekir’s arrival at the Emirates will be in the same window as when Alexis eventually leaves.
Wenger recently stated Sanchez will not be leaving in January, meaning a move for Fekir will have to wait till the summer.
But should a lucrative offer that is too good to turn down come in for the Chilean, Arsenal could decide to do business in the winter.
Whilst there is financial sense in doing the deal in January as the fee received for Alexis would go a long way in covering the acquisition of Fekir, the ideal scenario from a football sense would be to hold on till the end of the summer before making a huge change with such a key player added to the pressure that would be on Fekir to come in and deliver immediately.
