Alvaro Morata has revealed why he chose Chelsea ahead of other clubs, like Manchester United who wanted to sign him in the summer.
Morata was heavily linked with Manchester United in the summer but somehow a move didn’t happen.
Mourinho opted to sign Romelu Lukaku instead, after struggling to agree a fee with Real Madrid for Morata, leaving Chelsea who had made the Beligian their first choice red-faced.
Morata has now revealed he didn’t have to think it twice when Chelsea turned to him.
The striker says the presence of Antonio Conte made it very easy for him to choose Chelsea and he is now determined to repay the Italians faith.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Morata said:
“I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues. It was a good situation for me.”
“The most important and best conversation I had was with Conte, he wanted me to come here. I felt in debt to him. He signed me for Juventus but left very quickly to manage Italy. I always wanted to play for him after that.”
“At the start of the summer, I didn’t know that Chelsea were interested in me. I thought they were in for a different player, maybe Lukaku or maybe someone else, I don’t know. I didn’t think the option of Chelsea was open.”
Morata has begun life in the Premier League in impressive fashion, with three goals and two assists to his name already.
His goals will be crucial to Chelsea retaining the Premier League title and challenger in the Champions League this term. I hope there is a lot more to come from him.
