Reports making the round claims Arsenal are closing in on a double swoop deal for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira.
Leno is expected to sign a five-year deal and the move could be finalised later this week, sources said. German newspaper Bild reported the transfer fee was in the region of €25 million.
Leno is viewed as the long-term replacement for Petr Cech at the Emirates.
New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has already signed Swiss World Cup full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free from Juventus, and the addition of Leno suggests he is focused on sorting out Arsenal’s defensive problems.
Arsenal are also expected to announce the signing of Uruguay international Lucas Torreira by Wednesday, according to report.
The duo are expected to cost the Gunners a combined £46million, with Sampdoria receiving £26m for Uruguayan international Torreira and Leno setting the Gunners back a further £20m.
Torreira, who came off the bench in La Celeste’s 1-0 win over Egypt, is believed to have agreed personal terms before the tournament began.
Leno has made six appearances for Germany but was not named in their World Cup squad, enabling him to hold talks with Arsenal.
