Arsenal are currently preparing an offer to lure Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata away from Old Trafford, according to the Daily Mail
The 30-year-old could be available on a free transfer come summer, should United fail to reach a new contract agreement with him and as such, he could prove to be a bargain for any club ahead of next season.
With confusion about Mata’s position at United, Unai Emery is waiting in the wings to take advantage.
The Arsenal boss worked with Mata in their Valencia days and would love to have the 30-year-old at the Emirates.
Mata is currently earning £140,000 a week at United and would want to stay in the Premier League should United look to offload him.
It’s believed Mata would prefer to extend his contract at Old Trafford, but will look to stay in the Premier League if United do not offer him new terms.
The 30-year-old has been linked with his old Valencia boss Unai Emery at Arsenal, and has a number of offers on the table from Spain.
Mata is one of the United players who has endured a difficult relationship with Mourinho in recent months.
Emery is reportedly aware of capitalising on the whole Mourinho-Mata façade by bringing the playmaker to the capital.
The two previously worked together at Valencia, where Mata built a name for himself as one of Europe’s best, largely due to his fine goal-scoring record and a 2008 Copa del Rey title.
